Where did this ceremony take place:

In English

Batubulan Village is located in Sukawati Subdistrict, Gianyar, and has long been famous for its limestone crafts. Now the padas stone handicrafts in Batubulan are no longer developing because there has been a restriction from the government for people to mine limestones on the Pakerisan and Petanu river basin.

Batubulan is also famous for its barong dance performances. In addition, Batubulan is also known as the Mapantigan tradition. This tradition was started in the 1930s by a taekwondo activist named I Putu Winset Wijaya, who admired an old fighter from Bali. Then, he combined pencak silat and taekwondo techniques and created a Mapantigan tradition that was held for anyone with a passion.

Mapantigan is also carried out in the rice fields of Ubud, and several years ago Arma Hotel held a Mapantigan every week for foreign tourists. In Batubulan itself, Mapantigan is carried out in the rice fields before planting. This tradition is managed by Pondok Mapantigan Bali, which can be followed by local residents and tourists.

During the Mapantigan, participants are encouraged to wear Balinese traditional kamben. Two participants clash with each other and wrestle for two rounds lasting three minutes each. In order to win, participants must throw the other participants down into the mud. This is why this unique and fun activity is called Mapantigan which means 'to slam each other'.

Mapantigan is also very suitable for children's recreation, because they are taught to know the rice field environment and learn to express emotions so that they do not get bored.
