          Banyu Pinaruh

Where did this ceremony take place:

          In English

[EN] A day after Saraswati day is called Banyu Pinaruh. The phrase ‘banyu pinaruh’ is an old Javanese phrase which means ‘water of ultimate knowledge’. On this day, the Hindu people in Bali wake up in the morning, then they take holy bath (melukat) with holy water. Some Balinese people go to holy springs to have holy bath and pray. After that, they usually eat yellow rice mixed with fried red bean and shredded coconut (called sawur). This yellow rice is called ‘nasi pradnyan’ (rice of knowledge). This is a symbol of accepting spiritual knowledge. The real spiritual knowledge can only be accepted by human beings with pure and sincere hearts. That is why nasi pradnyan is served after one has taken holy bath and prayed. Beside nasi pradnyan, the Hindus also drink juice of sweet leaves (Sauropus androgynus) mixed with sugar, salt and tamarind. The purpose is to give anyone who drinks it strength of mind to be fixed in the path of righteousness. Unfortunately, this Banyu Pinaruh tradition is now mostly done up to holy bath only. More Balinese are becoming unaccustomed to cooking nasi pradnyan and drinking the sweet leaf juice, even though both dishes are delicious and nutritious.

[ID] Sehari setelah hari raya Saraswati disebut Banyu Pinaruh.
