Where did this ceremony take place:

          In English

[EN] This unique tradition is native to Pedawa Village, Buleleng, a Bali Aga (ancient Bali) village which has many ancient traditions. One of the ancient traditions of Pedawa is called Masaudan Kamulan Nganten. After a couple marries, they have to perform a ceremony in his family temple (“sanggah” or “mrajan”). According to senior villagers, this ceremony should be performed no later than three years after a person is married. In general, after three years of marriage a couple have had a child. Therefore, the Masaudan Kamulan Nganten ceremony is usually carried out in conjunction with a special ceremony for the first child.

Usually, a mrajan or family temple consists of a sacred building called “Rong Tiga” containing three sacred compartments. In Pedawa, uniquely, it has up to eleven compartments. This is another uniqueness of Pedawa village as Bali Aga village.

There is no special day to do the Masaudan Kamulan Nganten ceremony. It is just carried out based on the instructions of parents and saints. Whenever a married couple is ready to perform this ceremony, it is usually held immediately.
