        In English

[EN] Kajeng Kliwon is mostly related to mystic power by the Balinese. Therefore, the Balinese avoid going out for serious purposes on this day. This holiday falls every fifteen days according to Balinese calendar, when Kajeng day of three-day week meets Kliwon day in fife-day week (the Balinese has one-day week up to ten-day week calendar system. The regular seven-day week is one of them!). If Kajeng Kliwon falls on the waxing fortnight, it is called Kajeng Kliwon Enyitan. If it falls on the wanning fortnight, it is called Kajeng Kliwon Uwudan.

Kajeng Kliwon is a sacred holiday because on this day, the universe is said to purify and rejuvenate itself. Many people, therefore, take opportunity on this day to practice mystic capabilities and yogic powers. Actually, Kajeng Kliwon is derived from Ekadasi celebration that falls every fifteen days, on the waxing and wanning fortnights. On Ekadasi day, the Hindus fast and avoid mundane activities. According to the Vedic Literature, Ekadasi is the most sacred and holiest day among all other days between full moon’s day and ne moon’s day.

Kajeng means ‘sharp’, and the Balinese believe that one should not do any nailing activities or fencing activitities. If one violates this taboo, one may suffer from hip ache.
