          In English

[EN] A special ritual is held in Tenganan, Karangasem, for youth leader candidates. Teenager boys throw bananas at those candidates, and this tradition is called Sabatan Biu ‘Banana Pelting’. According to senior villagers, the purpose is to prepare the candidates’ mentality to be accustomed to face fluctuations among their subordinates. Sometimes a leader is blasphemed and scorned, but a leader should be strong and stick to the goal. This ritual is arranged informally and held in happiness. After the ritual, a Magibung feast is held (they eat together from one pile of delicious meal)—this is an endemic tradition originated from Karangasem to symbolize togetherness.
