              The Ngoncang tradition is carried out after the mabersih ceremony (cleansing or purification), which is a series of mass banjar cremation ceremonies in Tegal Banjar Pakraman Village, Buleleng. Ngoncang is a unique tradition of pounding rice in a wooden trough, which is called "Ketungan" (in Balinese). This is done to separate the rice husks, and then a bamboo filter is used to pulverize them, ready for cooking or selling. The activity of pounding rice in Ketungan is generally carried out by women. A wooden beater called "elu" is also used to help crush the rice and add a unique sound. This activity becomes a unique tradition with a distinctive musical rhythm called goncang.

              Tradisi Ngoncang dilaksanakan setelah upacara mabersih (pembersihan atau penyucian) yang merupakan rangkaian upacara ngaben massal banjar di Desa Pakraman Banjar Tegal, Buleleng. Ngoncang merupakan tradisi unik yaitu menumbuk padi di palung kayu, yang disebut "Ketungan" (dalam bahasa Bali). Hal ini dilakukan untuk memisahkan sekam padi dan kemudian filter bambu digunakan untuk menghaluskannya, siap untuk memasak atau dijual. Kegiatan menumbuk padi di ketungan ini umumnya dilakukan oleh perempuan. Pemukul kayu disebut ”elu” juga digunakan untuk membantu menghancurkan beras dan menambahkan suara unik. Kegiatan ini menjadi tradisi unik dengan irama musik yang khas yang disebut ngoncang.
