        Information about Holiday or Ceremony

        Rahina Bhatari Sri

Where did this ceremony take place:

        In English

On Umanis Friday of Kelawu, it is the time for the Balinese to worship Goddess Sri. Since traditional Balinese are agriculturally formed society who depend on agricultural products, the day of Bhatari (Goddess) Sri becomes very important. On this day, the Balinese offer prayers at their jineng (rice stockhouse, common in traditional houses), hoping for blessings from Goddess Sri as the presiding deity over foodstuffs, especially grains as basic sustenance. The Balinese usually offer rice, cakes and flowers. Because in modern age there are not many rice stockhouses, the Balinese celebrate the day of Goddess Sri at their rice fields or on their pulu (special earthen jar for keeping rice stock). Goddess Sri is eternal consort of Lord Visnu, who is also known as Lord Madhusudana. Therefore, the Balinese worship Goddess Sri and Lord Visnu as Bhatara Sri Sedana.
