        [EN] In accordance with what is stated in the Puranas, and quoted by the ancestors in the form of palm-leaf manuscripts and oral traditions, a funeral should be performed as soon as possible. When a person dies, there is an eleven-day period before his spirit prepares to leave for Yamaloka (Bhatara Yama's residence). On the twelfth day, the Hindus in Bali usually perform a ceremony called Ngarorasin. This ceremony is aimed at making a final offering to the spirit of the deceased. This offering is known as Tarpana. In Lontar Putru Saji Tarpana it is explained that the Tarpana offering is a water offering, because an ancestral body is formed from the water element.

        After the twelfth day, the spirit of the deceased departs for Yamaloka. There, the spirit is judged according to what it does during life. If he likes to do evil, Bhatara Yama will send him to hell. If his actions during his life are in accordance with the rules of religion and moral, he gets heaven. The period of stay of a person in heaven and hell is different according to the sins and merits. If the results of his actions run out, then he is reborn to Earth.

        One can be free from this cycle of birth and death if he is free from material desires. Material desire means the desire to satisfy oneself. This kind of awareness is called kamoksan teachings.

Tatkala seseorang meninggal, ada periode sebelas hari sebelum rohnya bersiap berangkat menuju Yamaloka (kediaman Bhatara Yama). Pada hari kedua belas, umat Hindu di Bali biasanya melakukan sebuah upacara yang disebut Ngarorasin. Upacara ini bertujuan memberikan persembahan terakhir kepada roh orang yang telah meninggal. Persembahan ini dikenal dengan Tarpana. Dalam Lontar Putru Saji Tarpana dijelaskan bahwa persembahan Tarpana adalah persembahan air, sebab badan seorang leluhur terbentuk dari unsur air.

        Setelah hari kedua belas, roh orang yang meninggal berangkat ke Yamaloka. Di sana, roh itu diadili sesuai dengan apa yang diperbuatnya selama hidup. Jika dia gemar berbuat jahat, Bhatara Yama akan mengirimnya ke neraka. Jika perbuatan selama hidupnya sesuai dengan aturan agama, dia mendapatkan surga. Masa tinggal seseorang di surga maupun neraka berbeda sesuai dengan pahala atau amal perbuatan seseorang. Jika hasil perbuatannya habis, maka dia dilahirkan kembali ke Bumi.

        Orang bisa bebas dari lingkaran kelahiran dan kematian ini jika dia bebas dari keinginan material. Keinginan material artinya keinginan untuk memuaskan diri sendiri. Kesadaran seperti ini disebuat dengan ajaran kamoksan.
