(proverb) Literally: Hanging by one hair. Dangerous situation. Especially refers to the fact that a baby will die if the mother does not take care of it. Later on a child may dislike its mother. But, the mother will remind the child that, when it was small, it “hung by a hair”, in other words would have died, had not the mother taken care of it.
