Sisyphus Island of the Gods
This is a Response to the Pariwisata Berkelanjutan wikithon
We know that Bali's economy relies on the tourism sector. Overtourism in Bali is not only limited to the density of tourists. Although restrictions on tourist visits can be a solution, the main problem lies in how foreign culture seeps into the lives of the Balinese people. Foreign culture is increasingly replacing local traditions, traditional transportation such as cikar and dokar are marginalized by motorized vehicles that pollute the environment and others. To maintain the noble Balinese culture, a strong commitment is needed from the community, government, and tourists. The community must be more active in maintaining their customs, rejecting destructive tourism practices, and supporting community-based ecotourism. Quota-based tourism restrictions, promotion of sustainable ecotourism, and education on cultural ethics for tourists must be implemented firmly. Cultural festivals must be strengthened with real regulations, not just mere ceremonies that should not only be a spectacle for tourists, but also a means of education for the younger generation to remain proud of their ancestral heritage. Without a shared commitment, the consequences could erode Bali's identity as a noble cultural heritage.
