The tubers contain a poison that must be washed out before using. The entire plant is quite poisonous and has to be chopped and washed very thoroughly and dried in the sun before eating. It is a common food, usually eaten as a snack, with grated coconut and a little sugar and salt. It is thought to taste better in this form than ubi kayu.
