- purple auhinia, Bauhinia purpurea (Fabaceae)
- The leaves of this medium sized tree have two lobes like the wings of a butterfly. The tree is a fairly recent introduction to Bali, but it is widely seen along the roads, flowering in the dry season. The flowers are purple to violet in color, very showy, with long, delicate petals. There are five thin, long petals, with a diameter of 8 to 10 cm. The stamens are long, thin, and curl prominently out of the flower. The pistil is shorter than the stamens and white. The light green leaves are about 8 cm. in diameter. The plant produces long pods full of beans, but these are not eaten in Bali.
