                  Scientific name: Syzygium aromaticum (L.) Merr.l & L.M.Perry, Family: Myrtaceae, Distribution: Endemic of Maluku, Indonesia, now cultivated in many tropical regions, Habitat: Moist condition, warm tropical climate.

                  A small evergreen tree, 8-20 m tall; leaves simple, elliptic, bright green, glossy, covered with aromatic oil glands in lower surface; inflorescences in small cluster; flower buds green, bright red when mature, consist of a long, narrow ovary, 1.5-2.0 cm in length; Sepals 4, triangular, surrounding a small ball of 4 overlapping petals that protect the developing flower parts inside; mature petals fall off under pressure from numerous white to yellow stamens, which are then revealed; fruit reddish-purple and swells to the size of an olive, contains 1-2 seeds. Uses: Spice, perfume, cosmetics, cigarettes and medicinal plant.
