                      Description(s)

(Dutch/English) Willem Gerard Hofker (1902-1981). The primary purpose of this publication is to make the work of the Dutch artist Willem Gerard Hofker widely known. Special attention is paid to the period 1938-1946, during which Hofker worked with his wife Maria Hofker-Rueter in what was then the Dutch East Indies. An undisputed highlight in this Indian oeuvre is the hundreds of paintings, drawings and watercolors that Willem Hofker made until the end of 1943, partly still in the last pre-war "golden years", partly already under Japanese occupation. The stories are mainly first hand by Maria Hofker. The book is also packed with photos, drawings and prints of watercolors, etchings and paintings by Hofker.
