Dr. Macy has previously held positions at the University of Denver, Skidmore College, Colorado College, UCLA, Chapman University and CalArts, and was the founder and director of Skidmore College's Gamelan Banyu Wali (an extension of Sanggar Manik Galih). She has taught courses on musics of the world, global pop, music of Southeast Asia, music and disaster, tourism, hip hop and the blues, music, race, and class, and African American musical heritage.

In her current position as Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology at Metropolitan State University of Denver, Dr. Macy serves as Area Coordinator of Musicology and the department’s Global Music Ensembles.
