This book is the result of a dissertation by the author. This book contains the history of Karangasem, especially during the transitional period of the bureaucratic system from traditional or royal to colonial or modern, with a temporal scope from 1980 to 1938. In its history, it was once a regional "superpower" kingdom by controlling the territory of the Buleleng Kingdom and Lombok Island, where this achievement had only ever been achieved by the Kingdom of Gelgel in the XV century. Therefore, the Karangasem kingdom became the center of political power in the eastern part of the island of Bali, including for quite a long time implementing royal or traditional bureaucracy before experiencing a period of transition to a colonial or modern bureaucratic system as a result of Dutch colonial rule in Bali.
