I Nengah Sujena was born in Bangli, Bali, in 1976. He graduated from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta in 2005. Sujena has had solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Bali, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Singapore, Tokyo etc. In 2007 he had a solo show entitled Songs of Solitude at the Komaneka Gallery.
Nature is the main source of creative inspiration for Sujena. His paintings articulate the revelation of nature. They reflect an ecological awareness that recognizes the fundamental relation between nature and the human. His works subtly criticize the anthropocentric view that considers the human as the center of truth with all the privileges to exploit nature. Sujena conveys a critical, yet poetic, message that living in harmony with nature is a soothing, peaceful life.
