Description

Carry out Waste Bank activities (which have been running for approximately 3 years) which are specifically engaged in special handling of plastic, metal, glass, buckets (other than organic waste). However, the handling of waste will be better if it is handled at the source, both non-organic waste and organic waste). Handling carried out simultaneously at the source will be much more effective and efficient. Of course, awareness, commitment, concern with individual communities, community groups (banjar/customary villages), business entities and the government are needed.

Why does the innovation or project matter?

The negative impact of waste, especially plastic waste, is that it continues to pile up. In addition to handling waste (especially household waste) through transportation of waste to TPA (final disposal sites), there is no handling of waste at the source. Waste management is currently only a matter of transferring problems or collecting problems at one point, which actually creates a new problem, namely the occurrence of over-loading of waste accumulation in the TPA.

How do you or your team know that the innovation or project is working (or making a positive contribution)?

1. Public awareness of sorting waste from source

2. There are 2 septic tanks in the yard

3. There is a waste bank in every traditional banjar

What has contributed to the innovation or project working?

growing the behavior of sorting waste from the source and reducing the waste that is wasted into the environment

What else would help the innovation or project be more successful?

Community participation is very important in handling organic and inorganic waste through waste bank activities independently and with full awareness in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

Is the innovation or project self-sustaining? If not, what needs to be done for that to happen?

Yes, because it involves the participation of indigenous people

What Balinese value does this initiative invoke?

Tri hita karana
