In 2004 Richard began living in Bali, residing in Ubud from 2007. His passion for art and writing inspired him to start reporting on the local art scene. His role is as a mediator between the public and the art world, to aid in the communication of art and it’s deeper understanding. He contributes articles and essays to the print and digital media, and exhibition catalogues. Richard has been published in various newspapers and magazines in the region and is the art columnist for NOW!Bali Magazine a contributor to the Jakarta Post, along with magazines in Singapore and World Sculpture News and Asian Art News magazines in Hong Kong.
As an art activist, he has a strong social platform and is dedicated to contributing to the development of artists, collectives and galleries, along with participating in and writing about the ongoing development of the Bali art infrastructure. Some of his accomplishments include authoring the artist biography Wayan ‘Apel’ Hendrawan – From Darkness into Light in 2015, and he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Bali Art Society 2013 – 2014. He is advisor to Ubud Diary, a new gallery presenting Balinese painting and the publisher of Richard’s current book, UBUD DIARY: Celebrating the Ubud School of Painting – the Diversity of the Visual Language.
