This book is the most comprehensive history of Balinese gamelan. The development of the Balinese gamelan is divided into several phases, namely the Prehistoric Period (2000 BC - VIII Century): The reign of the ancient Balinese kings (IX - XIV centuries): the arrival of the Majapahit people, the heyday of the Gelgel and Klungkung kings (Century). XIV – XIX): The Dutch Government Period (1846 -1945): The Independence Period (1945 – Late XX Century) and the Present (Late XX Century – Early XXI Century). These developmental phases are related to the clarification of Balinese gamelan from the perspective of its type, form and character, namely contemporary gamelan. In addition to revealing the chapters of Balinese gamelan from time to time, this book also reviews the cosmology, ethics and aesthetics of Balinese gamelan related to instrumentation, scales, tonal registers, song forms and playing techniques. This book ends with an overview and glossary of Balinese gamelan which can be used as a source for further research.
