THE PROBLEM
On 16 October 2021, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit Karangasem and Bangli districts, Bali, Indonesia, two areas that have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The earthquake triggered landslides in several locations in the district, damaging houses and temples. At least three people were killed according to Indonesia’s Search and Rescue Agency. As of 17 October, the Disaster Risk Reduction Forum reported the following damage data:
259 severely damaged houses
366 moderately damaged houses
101 damaged temples
THE SOLUTION
Kopernik is providing shelter kits, hygiene kits and emergency food supplies to the affected locations in Karangasem and Bangli. The kits comprise of the following:
Tarps (A5) : 100 pieces
Rope for tarps (6mm, 20 m/pack) : 100 pieces
Towels : 200 pieces
Sarongs : 200 pieces
Blankets : 200 pieces
Buckets : 200 pieces
Water scoops : 200 pieces
Toothbrushes : 200 pieces
Menstrual hygiene kits : 200 pieces
Emergency Food packages : 100 packages
THE EXPECTED IMPACT
This response is expected to reach more than 500 people from 100 households in Karangasem and Bangli who have been heavily impacted by the earthquake.
