I Gusti Putu Gede Wedhasmara was born in Denpasar, September 10, 1932. He is a songwriter from Bali. His songs were popular in the 1960s and 1970s and are still widely enjoyed by his fans. The magazine "Rolling Stone Indonesia" in its February 2014 issue included Wedhasmara in the "100 Best Indonesian Songwriters".

Wedhasmara since childhood loved the world of singing. After completing his junior high school education in Denpasar Bali, Wedhasmara continued his education at Santo Thomas High School in Yogyakarta City. In 1956-1963, Wedhasmara worked at the Jakarta Agriculture Bureau.

Wedhaswara was recorded to have joined various musical groups such as the Denpasar Joint Orchestra, Denpasar Keroncong Orchestra, the Mulyana Sutedja Quartet Yogyakarta, the Keroncong Orchestra led by Sukmini Yogyakarta, the Malay Orchestra Ria Bluntas, Zaenal Combo, and Empat Nada.

Wedhasmara's well-known songs “Senja di Batas Kota” and “You are always in my heart” were popularized by singer Ernie Djohan. "Carolus” was popularized by singer Lilis Surjani. These songs are timeless songs that will always be remembered, and to this day they are still often played on the radio in their original versions.

In 2011, Wedhasamara received an Art Award from the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia. Previously, Wedhasamara also received awards from the Mayor of Denpasar (2003), Governor of Bali (2003). and the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (1982). Wedhasmara died in Denpasar on April 17, 2017.

I Gusti Putu Gede Wedhasmara, lahir di Denpasar, 10 September 1932. Dia adalah pengarang lagu asal Bali. Lagu-lagunya populer pada era 1960-an dan 1970-an dan hingga kini masih banyak dinikmati oleh penggemarnya. Majalah “Rolling Stone Indonesia” pada edisi Februari 2014 memasukkan Wedhasmara dalam “100 Pencipta Lagu Indonesia Terbaik”.

Wedhasmara sejak kecil menyukai dunia tarik suara. Setelah menyelesaikan pendidikan SMP di Denpasar Bali, Wedhasmara melanjutkan pendidikan di SMA Santo Thomas di Kota Yogyakarta. Pada 1956-1963, Wedhasmara bekerja di Jawatan Pertanian Jakarta.

Wedhaswara tercatat pernah bergabung dalam berbagai kelompok musik seperti Orkes Gabungan Denpasar, Orkes Keroncong Denpasar, Kuartet Mulyana Sutedja Yogyakarta, Orkes Keroncong pimpinan Sukmini Yogyakarta, Orkes Melayu Ria Bluntas, Zaenal Combo, dan Empat Nada.

Lagu-lagu ciptaan Wedhasmara yang dikenal luas antara lain “Senja di Batas Kota” dan “Kau Selalu di Hatiku” yang dipopulerkan penyanyi Ernie Djohan, “Berpisah di St. Carolus” yang dipopulerkan penyanyi Lilis Surjani. Lagu-lagu tersebut adalah lagu abadi yang selalu dikenang, dan sampai hari ini masih sering diputar di radio-radio dalam versi aslinya.

Tahun 2011, Wedhasamara mendapatkan penghargaan Seni dari Menteri Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Republik Indonesia. Sebelumnya, Wedhasamara juga mendapatkan penghargaan dari Walikota Denpasar (2003), Gubernur Bali (2003). dan Menteri Kesehatan RI (1982). Wedhasmara meninggal di Denpasar pada tanggal 17 April 2017.
