Buta kala

buta kala

  • spirit en
  • general term for potentially disruptive or negative spirits which can affect man adversely. However butakala can be enlisted to help people, or at least leave them alone, if regular offerings and prayers are made to them. So it is really wrong to call butakala "demons" or "evil spirits". They are capable of doing harm, but do not necessarily do so unless provoked or neglected. Butakala are particularly active on particular days, at certain known times of the day, and in certain locations, most of which are well known to practically all Balinese people. en
